Edgar Parra Chacón
Dr. Parra is a Colombian Medician graduated from the Universidad Industrial de Santander in the city of Bucaramanga, Pediatric Specialist from the Universidad de Cartagena and holds a Specialization in University Teaching from the Universidad Santo Tomás de Aquino in Bogotá.
He started working at the Universidad de Cartagena 36 years ago; he started working as assistant professor in the Department of Pediatrics, School of Medicine.In addition, in this School he occupied different positions as Titular Professor III, Chief of the Department of Pediatrics, Chief of the Postgraduate Department and Vice- Dean.
He was editor for the book “Practical Pediatrics” and for the magazine of Medical Sciences of the School of Medicine. He is author of the following books “Academic Portfolio: The Profile of Health Professional as an University Professor”, “Cognitive Mediators in Higher Education, quality and investigation in University Pedagogical Practices”. Case: “Universidad de Cartagena” and clinical practical guides based in evidences: “acute respiratory infection”.
During his professional experience he has received important distinctions and recognitions by the National Academy of Medicine, the Colombian Medical Federation, the Colombian School of General Doctors, the Pan American Health Organization, the World Health Organization and the Colombian Association of Faculties of Medicine, for his contributions in the investigation in the field of medicine.
The Presidency of Colombia gave the award of Sanitary Achievement for his work efforts, with the Merit Order José Fernandez Madrid in Chevalier Grade in July 1986. In 2003, he was designated for first time as Academic Vice-Rector by the Resolution of Rectory number 1478 of June 26 of 2003 and for second time in the year of 2007 by the Resolution of Rectory number 1433 of June 22 of 2007. He was General Academic Coordinator from 2006 and 2007.
